Wine Tasting at Bodega Gross: A hidden gem near Cortijo Valverde
We visited Bodega Gross ourselves in March 2026 for the first time, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The setting alone is impressive, vineyards stretching across the hills, peaceful countryside views, and a scenic drive through the Andalusian landscape to get there.
A winery with a remarkable history
The story of the Gross family goes back centuries. Originally from northern Germany, the first members of the Gross family settled in Málaga in the late 18th and 19th century, during a time when the region’s wine trade flourished.
Málaga wines were highly valued across Europe and beyond, and the wines produced by the Gross family were even recognised by the court of Queen Isabel II. Their wines were exported worldwide and received several international awards.
Like many wineries in the region, the family vineyards were later devastated by the phylloxera crisis, which destroyed most vineyards in Málaga during the late 19th century. After many decades, the Gross family revived their wine tradition and today continue producing wines once again: combining history, passion and modern winemaking.
The experience
During a visit to Bodega Gross you’ll experience much more than just a tasting.
We enjoyed a beautiful walk through the vineyards, learned about the winemaking process, and visited the cellar where the wines are produced: still very much a family-driven operation.
The tasting itself was fantastic: excellent wines paired with delicious tapas, all while enjoying views over the surrounding countryside. It’s the kind of experience that feels both authentic and relaxed.
Good to know
Bodega Gross offers several types of tours and tastings, depending on how much time you’d like to spend at the winery.
Because the tours are small and personal, they often fill up quickly. If you’re interested in visiting during your stay, just let us know, we’re happy to arrange reservations for you.
You can easily reach the winery by car (about 40 minutes from Cortijo Valverde). Of course, you can also take a taxi, so everyone can fully enjoy the wine tasting without worrying about driving.
Cortijo Valverde Tip
A wine tasting at Bodega Gross pairs perfectly with a relaxing day exploring the countryside around Antequera or El Torcal. After a morning of wine, vineyards and tapas, return to Cortijo Valverde to unwind by the pool and enjoy the Andalusian sunset.
