Hidden in the rugged beauty of the El Chorro gorge, just a 30-minute drive from our B&B, you’ll find one of Spain’s most iconic hiking experiences: the Caminito del Rey. Once known as the “most dangerous path in the world”, it has now been carefully restored to offer visitors a safe yet exhilarating adventure.

The Caminito del Rey: Andalusia’s most thrilling walkway

The walkway stretches for around 7.5 km, clinging to the dramatic cliffs of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge. Originally built in the early 1900s to allow workers access to nearby hydroelectric plants, the path became legendary for its daring construction – wooden planks bolted into sheer rock walls, suspended high above the turquoise waters below.

Today, the route is completely safe and accessible, but it still carries the thrill of its adventurous past. Every step offers sweeping views of towering cliffs, sparkling reservoirs, and the raw beauty of Andalusia’s natural landscape.

What to expect on your hike

  • Duration: 2–3 hours, depending on your pace and photo stops.
  • Length: Approximately 7.5 km in total.
  • Difficulty: Suitable for most fitness levels, with mostly flat pathways and boardwalks.
  • Highlights: The iconic suspension bridge, panoramic viewpoints, and the dramatic narrow passes of the gorge.
